Glutamine is a very important amino acid and the one that our body needs the most. In theory it should constitute half of the body's total requirement for amino acids.
Amino acids can be broken down into ‘essential’ (i.e. that cannot be produced by the body and are therefore taken from an external source) and ‘non-essential’ (i.e. that are produced by the body itself using the essential amino acids). Glutamine has a peculiarity of its own because, even though it is a ‘non-essential’ amino acid and can therefore be produced by the body itself, it often needs to be taken as an additional supplement as the body does not produce it in sufficient quantities.
